Over 400 community members attended this year’s Youth Sparks Awards, which were held in Sylvan Lake on Friday, April 26.

At this year’s annual event, 111 youths were nominated in the various awards categories.

Ten were nominated for the Inspiration Award, 76 were nominated for the Service and Caring Award, 10 were nominated for the Art and Culture Award, 13 were nominated for the Athletic Ambassador Award and 11 were nominated for the Spark Champion Award.

This year’s theme for the awards was ‘You’re Going Places.’

The event was a perfect mix of celebration and entertainment, Mayor Megan Hanson said.

“Not only did we have the privilege of honouring these amazing leaders, but we were also treated to an incredible performance by the talented local dancers from Pound It Sylvan Lake.”

“We are so proud to have such talented individuals representing Sylvan Lake.”

Award winners include:

- Julie Elias - Inspiration Award

- Rozalyn Thyer - Service and Caring Award

- Adam Biganek - Art and Culture Award

- Kameron Wallace - Athletic Ambassador Award

- Kim Nemish - Spark Champion Award

The Youth Spark Awards is an excellent opportunity to let the youth in the community know that the town of Sylvan Lake values them and the positive contributions they have made, youth services supervisor Krista Carlson said.

“It allows us to highlight the effort they put into athletics, arts and culture activities, volunteering, as well as their incredible perseverance in overcoming challenges in life. It also allows us to celebrate those adults who go above and beyond to ensure youth in our community feel supported.”
