A chuckwagon driver was injured during the first night of All Pro Chuckwagon and Chariot Racing Association races at the Ponoka Stampede on June 26.

According to a statement from a Ponoka Stampede Association spokesperson, the driver is currently in hospital in stable condition awaiting further tests.

The horses involved are alright, aside from some bumps and bruises, the spokesperson said.

"Last night in Ponoka my dad was in a wreck and ended up falling out of his wagon and was ran over by his wagon and by another team," said Emily Arcand in a public Facebook post on June 27.

"He’s got a bunch of broken ribs, a chipped vertebrae and some minor bleeding but nothing for huge concern. Considering the circumstances he’s doing really well he’s awake, talking, playing crib, just quite sore.

"He was transferred to the Royal Alex in Edmonton and he’ll be in the hospital for a couple days to be monitored and for some more x-rays but as of right now everything is looking good."

Arcand thanked everyone for their concern and prayers but asked for privacy for her father to rest and heal at this time.
